Coesite and stishovite are rare silicates that form under the extreme pressures of a meteoric impact. This specimen with two species comes from the Nordlinger Ries crater in Bavaria. They are sometimes (incorrectly) termed volcanic glass. With magnification the glassy masses and tiny crystals can be seen in the altered matrix.
