Description
This is a small collection of outstanding scenic dendritic cabochons from Uttar Pradesh, India. Dendritic cabs of this quality are rare. It is part of a collection I acquired from an estate. These agates are found and expertly cut and polished in Uttar Pradesh, India.
The size can best determined by the photos on a one inch grid. The first photo, blue background, is a composite and the sizes are not to scale, as they are on the grid. The large round cab is 55mm across and weighs 63.9 cts. The other weights are 4.4, 16.7, 11.1, and 18.0 cts.
There is a close-up of the large cab to better display the excellent detail of the dendrite.
The dendrites form in between flat lying (water level) layers of chalcedony/agate and are essentially two dimensional, the dendrites having only a nominal thickness. These stones are cut very thin and flat polished. I am describing these with the commonly used term 'cabochon', however as these are flat polished they are not technically cabochons which have a domed face.
