Broken chunk from a larger rock this is a specimen of Anorthosite from the Ashland Black Granite Quarry in Ashland Co Wisconsin.
Nice study sample, it has more green what I think is Actinolite in it than other specimens from there I have.
This rock is sold as "Black Granite" commercially for use as decorative stone, kitchen countertops etc... it is not Granite.
Dark grayish Plagioclase feldspar (Labradorite) is the main mineral constituent along with minor amounts of black Biotite Mica, Augite and green Actinolite?.
Would be a decent classroom/teaching sample when covering Igneous rocks, or for lapidary use.
